Monteviot Beat Fishings
Season: 1st
February — 30th November
The River
Teviot, a main tributary of the River Tweed, is predominantly a game
fishing river with a salmon season extending from 1st February to
30th November, but which shows best results during the “autumn run” in
October/November. The season for brown trout extends from 1st April
to 30th September.
| ● |
Monteviot Beat offers approximately two and a half
miles of north bank fishing and similar on the south bank, with
the exception of Mounthooly Water for approximately half a mile. |
| ● |
The beat contains ten recognised salmon holding
pools and although most fish are taken in these locations, there
are many other “lies” worth a cast, depending on the water level. |
| ● |
A boat on the river at the Monteviot Pool is at the
disposal of the fishermen. |
| ● |
Monteviot Beat will
comfortably accommodate six rods which will have exclusive use of
the water, except that the owner retains the right to introduce
one rod at his discretion, a right which has never been exercised
without prior discussion. |
| ● |
Access to the river is via parking areas being provided at various points along the
river. There are two Fishing Huts for the use of the anglers.
|
| ● |
In addition to game fish, there is a very good head
of grayling in the river which has come to be very highly
regarded for the quality of fish caught. |
| ● |
Grayling fishing is encouraged during the months of
December and January, when game fish are out of season. |
| ● |
A gillie service can be made available by prior
arrangement with Kathy at Lothian Estates Office. |
| ● |
A large scale map showing the extent of the beat is
on display in the cottage.
