Monteviot Beat Fishings

Season: 1st February — 30th November

The River Teviot, a main tributary of the River Tweed, is predominantly a game fishing river with a salmon season extending from 1st February  to 30th November, but which shows best results during the “autumn run” in October/November.  The season for brown trout extends from 1st April to 30th September.

Monteviot Beat offers approximately two and a half miles of north bank fishing and similar on the south bank, with the exception of Mounthooly Water for approximately half a mile.
The beat contains ten recognised salmon holding pools and although most fish are taken in these locations, there are many other “lies” worth a cast, depending on the water level.
A boat on the river at the Monteviot Pool is at the disposal of the fishermen.
Monteviot Beat will comfortably accommodate six rods which will have exclusive use of the water, except that the owner retains the right to introduce one rod at his discretion, a right which has never been exercised without prior discussion.
Access to the river is via parking areas being provided at various points along the river.  There are two Fishing Huts for the use of the anglers.
In addition to game fish, there is a very good head of grayling in the river  which has come to be very highly regarded for the quality of fish caught.
Grayling fishing is encouraged during the months of December and January, when game fish are out of season.
A gillie service can be made available by prior arrangement with Kathy at Lothian Estates Office.

A large scale map showing the extent of the beat is on display in the cottage.
