Trout Fishing

 

Season:  1st April - 30th September

 

Trout fishing is at its very best in May and June, when good catches can be made of fish   averaging ½ lb.

 

A detailed record of all fish caught must be kept by all fishermen and must include:-  Total fish caught, weight and heaviest fish  each day.

 

 

PERMITTED METHOD:

 

All season - All legal methods, 

except spinning;

 

 

FLY PATTERN:    

                             

The following pattern, dressed on size 14-16

hooks can be tried;

 

 

March Brown, Greenwells Glory,

Iron Blue Dun, Grey Hen & Rusty and Tups

Indispensable.

 

 

Grayling Fishing  

 

 

 

 

Season:  All year

 

The pursuit of grayling is becoming ever more popular with anglers, especially those who discover that during the close season for game fish they may still indulge in their favourite hobby and enjoy first class sport.

The River Teviot, in recent years, has established a reputation for quality grayling which is second to none on the U.K.  Fish weighing between 2-3 lbs are not uncommon and fish up to 4 lbs in weight have been reported.

The months of December and January find grayling at their fighting best on the Teviot and good sport can still be enjoyed up to 15th March, when the normal close season for the species begins.

PERMITTED METHOD:     All legal methods

Please note during February and March priority is given to the salmon fishers.

 

 

 

 

Salmon & Sea Trout Fishing

 

Season:  1st February - 30th November

 

 

The main runs of salmon and sea trout take place on the Teviot in February, March, October and November,

However, this does depend a lot on prevailing conditions. 

 

A detailed record of all fish caught must be kept by every fisherman and must include: Number and weight of fish caught, location, and method.

 

 

PERMITTED METHODS:    
     
1st Feb-14th Feb - Fly only  
15th Feb-14th Sept - All legal methods, except prawns  
15th Sept-30th Nov - Fly only  
     

 

FLY PATTERN: Tube Flies and Waddingtons are preferred by most anglers and successful pattern include Comet, Yellow Dog and Ally's Shrimp.

 

 

Daily Cost per Rod

Daily/Weekly permits for fishing only on the Monteviot Beat will only be available if the cottage is not let.
